(Nuggets from Hebrews 9:12)
In the old testament, the blood of animals was the only way to atone for sins by serving as a covering. The blood of goats and calves was born sustainable and that was why God gave His son as a sacrifice to shed His blood for mankind, not to cover sins anymore, but to WASH THEM AWAY.
In John 1:29, John the Baptist proclaimed:
“Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”.
John had to emphasize the purpose of Jesus' death as the Lamb of God, not as the Lamb or goats or calves in the old testament, but a Lamb whose blood would take away the sins of the entire human race.
To understand the effect of the Blood of Jesus, you need to understand the purpose of the blood of animals that was shed in the old testament.
THE BLOOD OF ANIMALS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT WAS FOR ATONEMENT.
To ATONE simply means to cover. The blood of animals temporarily covered the sins of the people.
Imagine that there is a dirty wall in your house and you want to paint it white. When you apply the paint, the white color covers the dirt on the wall perfectly, but after sometime, the paint becomes transparent, and you can then see the old color and dirt behind the new layer of paint that has dried.
Why does this happen? Because a fresh coat of paint only TEMPORARILY covers IMPERFECTIONS on the wall.
See the ATONING BLOOD of the animals as this temporary coat of paint.
THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS A REDEMPTIVE BLOOD which qualified Him as the only PROPITIATION for our sins.
The BLOOD OF JESUS does more than paint the dirty wall white: His BLOOD took a sandpaper to scrape and clean all the impurities from the dirty wall so that when the fresh paint dries there is no dirt behind it to be seen.
Having obtained ETERNAL REDEMPTION for you, it is your life-long duty to take advantage of this redemption and never take it for granted.
THE REDEMPTIVE BLOOD WASHES AND CLEANSES AWAY ALL SINS IF ONLY YOU ARE WILLING TO SURRENDER TO JESUS AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOUR.
