CUT IT OFF: DEALING WITH SIN FAST ENOUGH
(Nuggets from Mark 9:43)
Our Lord Jesus Christ in this illustration wasn't implying that you should literally cut off your hands, but it was a symbolic statement, highlighting the danger of losing something much more invaluable because of a wrong choice of holding on to the things you count as important to you.
Let's drive this point home with an illustration.
Imagine a mother of father refusing to scold their child from a tender age for every misconduct. They see those manifestations of the nasty nature and mischievous acts innate in the child and instead of correcting the child, they pamper him or her till it gets to a point where the child is no longer malleable.
They traded RAISING A RESPONSIBLE CHILD for an EASY LIFE. The end of that child will be nothing but MISERY and CHAOS.
Goliath, the popular champion of Gath was once a baby; he wasn’t born a giant, he grew into one.
Giants don’t just crash into our lives unannounced. They are nurtured, cultivated, and tolerated until they become unmanageable.
The giants in your life, those looming struggles of sin, shame, addiction, bad habits or pride rarely appear full-grown. More often, they begin in seed form, masked as:
A small compromise;
A half-truth;
A silent grudge;
An indulgence that looks seemingly innocent;
A single click on that website;
A play button on that video;
A word spoken in anger.
Delayed obedience, etc.
At first, they appear harmless, perhaps even harmless curiosities. But you must understand that the VINEYARD of your life is not destroyed by WOLVES; it is ruined by LITTLE FOXES, the unexpected, unassuming small things that sneak in unnoticed and eventually ravage what God intended to bloom.
A curiosity becomes a fascination.
A fascination becomes a habit.
A habit becomes bondage.
And bondage, if left unchecked, becomes a giant, and one day you look up and ask, “How did this happen? How did I get here?” It didn’t happen overnight.
This is why Solomon urges us to “catch the little foxes”, not because they are dangerous now, but because they will become dangerous in the long run if left unchecked.
So today, ask yourself with honesty and humility: What baby giants am I nurturing? Because if you don't confront them while they’re small, they’ll confront you when they’re big.
What is that hand that you are KEEPING INTACT? As useful as the hand is, Jesus said if it will take you to hell, do away with it immediately.
What is that “baby giant” in your life that you've been excusing?
What are those small liberties that have become recurring patterns?
What are those besetting sins that have mesmerized you and left you for dead?
You can't afford to risk MANAGING them or pretending that all is well with you.
CUT OFF THAT SIN IMMEDIATELY! DEAL WITH IT AS FAST AS POSSIBLE BEFORE IT DEALS WITH YOU!
This is HOLINESS CHALLENGE
