FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST AS OF OLD
(Nuggets from Acts 2:4)
As promised by our Lord Jesus before His departure, the Holy Spirit did come, but not only on the twelve Apostles, but on all who were gathered in the upper room.
Today's verse highlights the significance of an altar of prayer and communion with God, and how this serves as a catalyst for empowerment to do God's work.
Where do you meet with God?
It was in the upper room that Jesus had the last supper with his disciples and gave them bread and wine, signifying his broken body and blood that would be shed for the sins of the world. It was in this same upper room that Jesus washed His disciples' feet and promised them that the Holy Spirit would come upon them after His departure.
It was in this same upper room that Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, and there couldn't have been a better place for them to experience the fulfillment of this promise other than the same UPPER ROOM.
Even though they had been with the Lord for three years of His earthly ministry, the apostles were not equipped to carry out our Lord's Great Commission until they were filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus also promised that we would do greater works than He did. Obviously we cannot accomplish these greater works through our own self efforts.
The Holy Spirit whom the disciples received at Pentecost enabled them to change the course of history.
To be FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST, you need to first of all understand who He is.
He is God, with all attributes of God; the Spirit of God, He is a person, He is not a force or an impersonal being, He possesses intellect, emotion and will; He is an INTELLIGIBLE BEING.
He is the third person in the Trinity. He is co-equal with God the Father and God the Son. The HOLY GHOST is the HOLY SPIRIT of God and because God cannot condone any form of iniquity, He cannot dwell in a heart/life that is polluted.
You need to be sure what you're asking for, because to be filled with the Holy Ghost comes with a price.
Are you sure you want your personality to be taken over by One who will require obedience to God's instructions? Who will not tolerate any sin or nasty nature in your life? Who will not permit you to strut or boast or show off? Who will take full control of your life and reserve the sovereign right to test you and discipline you? Who will strip away from you every idol that secretly harms your soul?
Unless you can answer an eager “Yes” to these questions, you do not want to be FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST.
This is HOLINESS CHALLENGE
