THE PROSPERITY OF THE RIGHTEOUS
(Nuggets from Psalm 1:3)
King David, the Psalmist, starts the Book of Psalms with this opening remark on THE WAY OF THE RIGHTEOUS AND THE WICKED.
Verses 1-3 highlight the BLESSEDNESS of the RIGHTEOUS;
Verses 4-5 highlight the LOT of the WICKED (sinners)
Verse 6 shows a contrast between the RIGHTEOUS and the WICKED.
The CONSEQUENT PROSPERITY of the godly man is emblematically described in today's verse (Psalm 1:3).
As a tree is nourished by constant supplies of water, without which, under the burning sun it would wither and die, so the life of the godly man is maintained by the supplies of grace drawn from constant communion with God through revelation knowledge received by meditating in God's word daily. (Psalm 52:8)
The TREE described here is a SPECIAL TREE, not conifers like the spruce, fir or the whistling pine, neither is it any of the popular deciduous trees like the oak and maple trees. All the aforementioned trees DO NOT BEAR FRUITS.
The TREE described here is the PALM TREE. (Psalm 92:12A)
"The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree."
IMAGINE A PALM TREE PLANTED BY THE RIVERS OF WATER ðŸ’
It will definitely have CONSTANT NOURISHMENT because it won't rely on rainfall for sustenance.
The Palm tree will remain RESILIENT and EVERGREEN even in drought, showing how you will remain fruitful and stable through life's trials whenever you're connected to God.
Ever wondered why the Psalmist use the palm tree for this illustration?
Let's analyze the PALM TREE briefly..
The Palm tree has a number of species:
1. Oil Palm
2. Raffia Palm
3. Coconut Palm
4. Date Palm
Let's take a look at the USEFULNESS OF A PALM TREE:
- Source of Palm Oil for cooking and frying.
- Raw material for soap, cosmetics, and lubricants.
- Source of Palm wine
- Source of Palm sugar used for beverages, wine and sweeteners.
- Source of wood/timber and furniture and diverse wood works.
- Source of Palm Fronds for thatching roofs, brooms and mats.
- Source of fibre used for making ropes, weaving baskets and other crafts.
- Source of roots used in traditional medicine.
- Source of bio-fuel
- Stands as the most efficient carbon sink that helps to improve air quality.
This is exactly how useful, resourceful and industrious the righteous are, always FRUITFUL and FLOURISHING in all ramifications of life. This is made possible through regular meditation on the law of God, making your GRACE and VIRTUES to be nourished and increased, thoroughly furnishing you for every good work.
The means of GRACE are those rivers of water near which the trees of righteousness are planted, and from these they receive supplies of strength and vigor, but in secret ways.
"That bringeth forth fruit in his season"; the righteous always bears fruits (virtues) like doing good at all times, exercising faith, hope, love, justice, mercy, temperance, patience, meekness, long-suffering, as occasion demands.
His leaf also shall not wither, meaning that His blessedness is not short and transitory, as all worldly felicity is, but fixed and everlasting.
Whatsoever he doeth shall prosper, meaning that all his actions, being directed by the word, providence and grace of God, shall be crowned with success in one respect or another, (for even disappointments, losses, and afflictions, shall work for his good,) and with a blessed effect or end because "ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THOSE WHO LOVE GOD, and are called according to His purpose."
THE PROSPERITY OF THE RIGHTEOUS IS SACROSANCT.
