JESUS BEHELD SATAN AS LIGHTNING FALL FROM HEAVEN
(Nuggets from Luke 10:18)
The words of our Lord Jesus in today's verse confirm the fact He has been in existence even before creation.
In the earlier verses of Luke chapter 10, Jesus appointed an additional 70 disciples. This was happening towards the close of His earthly ministry; He sent them out in pairs to prepare the cities ahead of His visit. They were commissioned by our Lord Jesus to go and EVANGELIZE, and as Jesus promised in the Gospel of Mark 16:17-18:
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover;"
The scripture was fulfilled before their very eyes.
They returned from their Evangelism and began to give Jesus reports on their outing, and in verse 17:
"And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name."
They were fascinated that the devils were subject to them, but one thing was strategic; they didn't arrogate their exploits to themselves, they didn't attribute their ability to cast out demons to themselves, they acknowledged that the devils were subject to them IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST who sent them.
The seventy were telling him their feelings of joy at finding that His name in their mouths enabled them to cast out evil spirits from the possessed. Jesus responded to them by revealing that what they had just experienced (evil spirits and demons being driven out of the possessed) was just minuscule compared to the bigger event He witnessed when the master and chief of all evil fell from his eminence and throne of power like a flash of lightning, a punishment well deserved for his tyranny and attempt to overthrow God His creator.
Jesus Christ our Lord was right there when all these transpired, not as the son of Mary and Joseph or as the redeemer of the world, but as the second person in the TRINITY - the word of God PERSONIFIED.
Our Lord Jesus seized this moment to tell the 70 disciples about what transpired in Heaven that led to the fall of the angels as a way of cautioning them, lest their success should puff them up with pride.
Jesus saw angels turned into devils because of their pride; this was the sin for which Satan was cast down from Heaven where he had been an angel of light. Jesus told His disciples that He witnessed it, and that He just gave them an intimation of it lest they, being lifted with pride should fall into that same condemnation of the devil, who fell by pride.
This is a lesson to every believer out there, doing one exploit or the other for God; do not allow pride to creep into your life because it was for this same reason that Lucifer was expelled from Heaven.
This is HOLINESS CHALLENGE
