MATTHEW 11:28
In today's HOLINESS CHALLENGE, I challenge you to ACCEPT THE LORD'S INVITATION TODAY, COME TO JESUS AS YOU ARE, BRING YOUR HEAVY BURDENS TO HIM, HE IS READY AND WILLING TO RELIEVE YOU AND GIVE YOU LASTING PEACE AND COMFORT.
This is an express and open invitation to ALL whose lives are laden with sin, observation of religious practices and other troubles and perplexities of life.
The Lord knows that we can't do it all on our own. He is touched by our infirmities and fully understands that there are certain things we can't do without His support.
It takes the exertion of energy to LABOR. However, in this context, Jesus wasn't referring to physical labour, load or burden. He was referring to all the yoke of self-righteousness, religious practices and ceremonial activities that Christians of that time indulged in.
The Jews at that time had so many laws and the Pharisees who were 'self-righteous' thought that keeping and observing those laws would recommend them to God.
This is so relevant in our time too.
There's no amount of RELIGIOSITY that can bridge the gap between our TRUE NATURE OF SIN and TRUE HOLINESS.
Our good works do not amount to Holiness and Righteousness.
Our Righteousness is like filthy rags before God. Jesus is therefore calling you today to give up all those self-righteous deeds and submit to Him. He wants to give you rest!
You can't get to Heaven by your own power or by being a church-goer, active worker, while you still indulge in some nasty things and commit sin. You must understand that Jesus is THE ONLY WAY.
Jesus Christ has paid the price and shed His blood for you already. Why should you pay for your sins with your blood?
On the other hand, the physical challenges and heart aches we are experiencing are not left out too.
This invitation by the Lord is a double-edged sword that has the propensity to undo every challenge we are facing in any area of our lives.
You can't get rid of those troubles by thinking about them or trying to help yourself. Jesus is calling you to trust Him enough to cast all your cares and burdens upon Him today.
Surrender those burdens to Him today, and you will surely find rest, comfort and peace that will carry you through till the end.
